In September 1837, Australia is a penal colony. Convict Glancy who is one of the convicts being penalized in Australia, due to his crime of stealing a handkerchief, commits further crimes. He therefore suffers the extreme penalty of law, the death sentence including hundred lashes on his back. The question is, do brutal measures prevent further brutality?

Convict Glancy demonstrates with his actions his opinion on the convict system in Australia. His behaviour often reflects the spirit of convicts. Most of the convicts these days are not able to accept authorities, who have the right to command them. I personally feel that they would rather die than to carry out somebody's instructions. Convict Clancy not only kills two people in authority , he also disrespects dead man J. Jones by spitting on his grave.
