In my essay, I will try to analyse Napoleon´s dogs and Benjamin, to figure out what their part in the story is and what Orwell had in mind when he wrote about them.
Orwell uses the dogs in his book to represent the bodygards of Stalin. The dogs are the arch-defenders of Napoleon and the pigs, and although they don´t speak, they are definitely a force the other animals have to contend with.
Orwell almost speaks of the dogs as mindless robots, so dedicated to Napoleon that they can´t really speak for themselves.
